Mandukasana yoga/ Frog pose

  • Sit comfortably in Vajrasana, make a fist by keeping the thumb inside.
  • join the knuckles and place the fist on your lower abdomen below the navel fingers touching the abdomen.
  • Inhale and exhaling bend down, feel the pressure on lower abdomen & slowly relax your body, shoulder and elbows.
  • Stay there either in suspension or shallow breathing till you are comfortable.
  • Inhaling come back in starting position and release the posture and do Normal breathing.
  • Repeat 3-5 times.

Ujjayi Pranayama

Ujjayi pranayama also referred to as ‘Victorious Breath’ or ‘Ocean Breath’ or ‘Cobra Breath’. It helps calm the mind and warm the body. When practising Ujjayi, you completely fill your lungs, while slightly contracting your throat, and breathe through your nose. This breathing technique is used throughout Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga practices. It is part of the eight Kumbhakas of Hathayoga.

COVID-19 and Influenza

Viruses are tiny microbes that survive by invading other living cells. Both covid-19 and seasonal flu are viral infections but covid-19 is due to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and flu is from influenza A and B viruses. There are 4 types of seasonal influenza viruses, types A, B, C and D. Influenza A and B viruses circulate and cause seasonal epidemics of disease. Seasonal influenza spreads easily and can sweep through schools, nursing homes, businesses or towns. When an infected person coughs, infected droplets get into the air and another person can breathe them in and be exposed.

Ustrasana (camel pose)

A Very significant pose for interior stretching and posterior contraction.

How to do:

  • Assume a sitting posture as in kneeling. Keep a comfortable distance between knees.
  • support the body on toes and knees and gradually lean backwards while breathing in, slowly hold your heels ( don’t put pressure on heels).
  • keep your arms straight and push your abdomen and pelvic forward & upward and hang your neck behind.
  • Stay in the posture for a few seconds in Normal breathing.
  • Release the posture while exhaling.
  • Do 2-3 rounds with a pause in between.

Stories – Mirror Of Child’s Subconscious

‘Make a story’ – I play this game quite often with the kids who are brought to me for treatment. I encounter so many children with different personalities; some very talkative, some shy, some very hyper, some calm and so on. But, one thing which acts as an ice-breaker for me in striking conversation with the children is ‘Story-telling’. Kids love listening to stories and creating their own stories. Given a chance, every child will come up with so many stories of their own, we won’t require any storybooks. Kids can create their own stories depicting different emotions and they are so interesting, you will wonder how can a child so small think so much! Their world is full of fantasies, metaphors and creativity. And, you can enter their world through their stories.
