
If you google the word herb, you will find a variety of definitions, but what exactly are herbs or herbal medicine? Herbal medicines are the medicinal plants or the formulations made from plants that will help to cure a certain type of disease or will promote your immunity.
Did you know that the concept of immunity was known to humanity for thousands of years? Yes, in India great sages like Acharya Charaka, Acharya Sushruta and many more have explained the concept of Immunity thousands of years ago.
In Ayurveda, there is this thing called vyadhikshamatva, and this exactly is immunity. The modern definition of immunity states that it is the ability to resist or not to be affected by a disease, which is undoubtedly what vyadhikshamatva is.
So, there are certain ways mentioned in Ayurveda to improve your immunity and a few of them are being mentioned in this blog.
Oil pulling, which many of you must not have heard about. Here in the oil pulling procedure, you have to take sesame or coconut oil. One tablespoon is enough, then you have to swish it for 2 to 3 mins and then throw it out. Thereafter, clean your mouth with warm water by gargling. Do this 2 times a day.
Nasal administration of sesame oil or coconut oil can also be done daily before taking a bath to improve your immunity naturally.

Other immunity promoting measures –
- Consume Chyavanprash one teaspoon right in the morning. Diabetics should take sugar-free Chyawanprash. Regular consumption of chyawanprash not only increases immunity but prevents inflammation of body cells.
- Drink herbal tea or a decoction also known as kasha in the local language made from Basil, Dalchini (Cinnamon), Kalimirch (Black pepper), Dry Ginger and Raisin. It is advised to take it once or twice a day. Add jaggery or fresh lemon juice to your taste, if needed.
- Golden Milk – Half teaspoon Haldi (turmeric) powder in a small glass of hot milk, once or twice a day.

In present conditions where COVID-19 is spreading so rapidly, people are advised to drink hot or lukewarm water. Doing little things like adding a few spices to your meal is a great help for improving your immunity. A few of the recommendations are:
