Bhramari Pranayama

bhramari pranayama

Bhramari stands for humming sound of a bee. In simple words producing a humming bee sound while exhaling means bhramari pranayama. This pranayama is a calming breathing exercise that helps to relax the nervous system and cool down our minds. This practice can begin to quiet the mind within a few breaths, for those who suffer from anxiety.

Steps:

  1. Sit in a clean peaceful place with spine erect.
  2. Now close your ears lids or flaps with your thumbs. With eyes closed place your index finger just above your eyebrows and the rest of your fingers over your eyes.
  3. Now focus on the part between your eyebrows.
  4. Inhale deeply and while keeping your lips lightly closed, exhale making a steady low-pitched humming sound like a bee.
  5. Repeat five times and concentrate only on the positive energy. Gradually increase the practice to 15 rounds.

Do not apply pressure on the eyes. While exhaling, let the humming sound be produced naturally, do not exhale forcefully.

Benefits

  1. Improves concentration and reduces stress.
  2. Aids in regulating High blood pressure, high temperature and hyperacidity.
  3. Gives relief in Migraine.
  4. Calms and relaxes the mind.
  5. Improves voice.
  6. Soothes the nervous system thus aiding insomnia.

Caution

People suffering from low blood pressure, asthma or any other respiratory disorder should avoid practising the same. Should be avoided during pregnancy and menstruation.
