According to Ayurveda, the Ama dosha generated in your body is the root cause of many diseases.
What exactly is ama dosha?
When food is not digested properly, toxins build up in your gut, which can be referred to as ama dosha.
What are the causes for the creation of the ama dosha?
The jatharagni that means the digestive fire, when gets diminished or gets weaker, leads to the improper digestion of food. The main cause of the weakening of digestive fire is the consumption of unhealthy food.
According to Ayurveda, one should have two meals a day, the first as lunch and the second as dinner, eating more than this will weaken your jathragni resulting in the creation of ama dosha. Consumption of foods with opposing properties is another major factor in the development of ama dosha.
Stressful life, too much worrying, overthinking, difficulty sleeping, and many mental and psychological conditions can all contribute to ama dosha sanchiti (accumulation of ama dosha).
One main cause for the weakening of digestive fire is eating before the previous meal is digested.
There are a few indications that you have ama dosha accumulated in your gut such as bad breath, bad-smelling faeces, body odour, weakness, bloating.
General symptoms include constipation, hypersalivation, decreased appetite, abdominal pain.
What can you do to get rid of ama dosha?
You can have ginger before your meals. Chew a small piece of ginger prior to having your meal.
Drinking lukewarm water if you feel you relate to any of the above symptoms. You can opt for panchakarma after the removal of ama dosha.
Consumption of a nutritious diet, decent eating habits, getting enough sleep, regular exercise, keeping your body hydrated, and refraining from doing the activities listed above can help you avoid ama dosha accumulation and live a healthy lifestyle.
